Message from the President

Welcome back to Baton Rouge Women’s Tennis Association of Louisiana, LLC (BRWTA) ! Our organization was formed in 1971 to advance the role, influence, and participation of women and girls playing tennis in our local community. A fundamental tenet of BRWTA from the outset was its desire to fill the ranks of its membership from all parts of the community, and this foundation of our organization still stands strong today. BRWTA invites all women who love tennis to participate, not just women affiliated with private clubs or having certain skill ratings or backgrounds or livelihoods. Any woman at least 18 years old and interested in playing tennis is welcome to join.

BRWTA sponsors nine monthly Doubles Fun Tournaments during its club year which runs from August through May.  All tournaments provide an opportunity for competition, fitness, and friendship followed by a delicious lunch which is included in the registration fee for all participants. At the luncheon, prizes are awarded for 1st and 2nd place in each division of play, and door prizes are awarded to about ten lucky lunch attendees. The energy and camaraderie at these tournaments and luncheons is contagious and exciting ! BRWTA truly puts the fun, sometimes overlooked in league play, back into tennis.

Having fun is not the only thing that we do in BRWTA. Our members engage in civic-minded activities with the mission of improving our community. For several years, BRWTA has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank which helps to feed those in need in our area. Usually our food drive is done in conjunction with the November tournament, a time at which we give thanks for the many blessings bestowed on our club and its members. BRWTA has also participated in various efforts aimed at helping organizations such as Toys for Tots, Family Road of Baton Rouge, as well as individuals experiencing hardship in our tennis family.  We also make an annual donation to the Cajun Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament and the Highland Open Tennis Tournament supporting Cystic Fibrosis.

During our November tournament we have a Christmas Bazaar which allows our members to showcase and sell items that they have created or that they wish to sell.  This is a great time to do some early Christmas shopping.

We look forward to having you as an active member of BRWTA.

See you on the courts,
Mindy Lovell
